What to do with the Tail Ends of Your Embroidery

For my embroidery projects, I weave the tail ends of the thread into the pattern on the backside of the embroidery. This was how I was taught to secure the thread when doing other embroidery projects, like cross stitch.

However, after watching this video, I'm curious about trying the backstitch seen at 1 minute 47 seconds into this video to secure the ends of my next project. My hesitation, however, is that I make my embroidered garments to be machine washable. If my stitches are every third hole on the linen fabric, this may work. However, if my stitches are every fifth hole, I am afraid it may unravel.

Regardless, this is an interesting and educational video on historical stitches that I recommend watching.

Do you need ideas for filling patterns for blackwork embroidery? I found this link online this morning. https://yadi.sk/a/65R_Yef23ZQeRh

Some of the patterns remind me of Bess of Hardwick's sleeves.
