At Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, there is a miniature that Hans Holbein the Younger painted in 1533 of Derich Born that has blackwork embroidery along the collar, as well as going down the front opening of his shirt.
Here is my beginning interpretation of the embroidery pattern:
